BELL RINGERS WANTED
St Edward's band of ringers would welcome a few more people to come and learn to ring the church bells.
Bell ringing is a fascinating blend of physical and mental exercise, Church service and social activity, performed by a wide mix of people in a variety of amazing places. In fact it can become a very addictive hobby.
The eight bells in St Edward's tower are over 120 years old. They weigh from approximately 3 cwt (150 kg) to over 8 cwt (400 kg) and rotate vertically when ringing.
They are rung from 9.15 to 9.45 for the 10.00 Sunday morning service, for weddings and other special services and on Thursday evening practice from 7.30 - 9.00.
Almost anyone over the age of about 12 can be taught to ring them. You don't have to be big and strong, musical or mathematical to ring bells, though a sense of rhythm and being able to count to eight does help.
If you have ever wondered what it feels like to ring a church bell come along on a Thursday evening and find out. Or perhaps you have a friend or family member who would enjoy a pull.
Please take a leaflet from the back of the Church or talk to Francis or any of the ringers after the service.
